(09/25/2007) LONDON - Director General of American and European Affairs at the Foreign Ministry Eddy Hariyandhi said Indonesian diplomats in other countries especially in Central and East Europe should be more proactive.
Eddy Hariyandhi made the remark at a meeting attended by Indonesians including observers at the Indonesian guest house in Prague, Czechoslavakia, a spokesman of the Indonesian embassy in Prague, Azis Nurwahyudi, said in a release on Monday. Eddy said the big chances and challenges facing Indonesia in forging relations with Central and Eastern European countries have been increasing following the speedy development of countries in those regions. To answer those chances and challenges, diplomacy should be actively intensified and therefore Indonesian diplomats should be proactive in this respect. The director general also expressed hope for the participation of Indonesians living in Czechoslavakia in improving relations between the two countries in the economic, education and socio-cultural sectors. As to his response to corruption cases, Eddy also said that Indonesia should be proud of the hard work of the government in dealing with corruption cases by issuing various regulations and capturing corruptors. However Indonesia was one of the countries which according to the international world achieved success in handling corruption cases, he said. (Ant/PAB) |
